Student Success

Introduction

In the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, the Secondary Student Success Teacher is a Guidance counsellor who is also a member of the Guidance Department and the Larger “Student Success Team”.  The Student Success Team consists of administrators, department heads of Guidance and Special Education, Social Worker and the Chaplain.  

The Student Success Teacher is the dedicated adult primarily responsible for the support of students at risk in Grades 8, 9 and 10.  The areas of focus include:  

  • Identify, track and monitor the progress of students considered “at-risk”  
  • Work with school teams to develop strategies to support students “at-risk” inform and communicate with all partners  
  • Ensure that at-risk students are accessing the appropriate programs and receive the necessary support  
  • Meet with teachers of the students at-risk to setup intervention strategies, monitor attendance and academic progress  
  • Implement transition programs for at-risk students moving from Grade 8 to Grade 9 which may include presentations to parents and staff  
  • Deliver instruction to at-risk students through Credit Recovery and/or other interventions  

Inform the principal and the Student Success Team on the work being done with individual students work with Administration, Guidance and Special Education to promote and ensure alignment of services for students at-risk.
